Abstract

1. Bronze VB-23HTs, under the conditions of the present experiments in which condensed water is formed from the fuel, is very sensitive to the corrosive effect of the moist fuel. Bronze VB-24 under these conditions is relatively stable to such corrosive effects. 2. The extent of corrosion of bronze VB-23HTs under conditions of moisture condensation depends in practice only very slightly on the quantity of mercaptans present in the fuel. 3. The main product of the corrosion bronze VB -23HTs under conditions of moisture condensation is lead, which is present in the bronze to the extent of 20%. 4. Corrosion of bronze VB-23HTs under conditions of moisture condensation is of an electrochemical nature involving an anodic process accompanied at its first stage by the dissolution of lead in the electrolyte and the passivization of copper.
