Abstract

The corrosion performance of typical stainless steels (SS) in hot concentrated seawater under vacuum boiling condition was investigated by using electrochemical techniques. During the long-term immersion in the vacuum boiling solution, 2205 DSS, 316 L SS and 446 SS exhibit similar corrosion evolution behavior, and the pitting induction time are about 2040, 1800 and 4460 h, respectively. Only a few shallow pits are formed on the specimen surface after about 6800 h of immersion. In addition, the corrosion pits on 316 L SS specimens are slightly deeper than those of 2205 DSS and 446 SS specimens, which may be attributed to the lower Cr and Mo content.
