Abstract

A qualitative corrosion study was carried out on Al 2O 3–ZrO 2–SiO 2 and Al 2O 3–ZrO 2 crucibles in contact with a glass prepared from a mixture of a blast-furnace slag and cullet (soda lime glass). Chemical, microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and micro-Raman spectroscopy investigations are reported. No difference in corrosion resistance was found between the two materials, and the dissolution of alumina and mullite is considered to be a homogeneous reaction at the interface.
