Abstract

PVC solves river crossing problem. When it was discovered that the 2‐in.‐diam steel water main crossing the River Arun at its mouth at Littlehampton had corroded (see Fig. 1) the Water Engineer for the Worthing Corporation was confronted with a considerable problem, since the Arun is reputed to be the second‐fastest flowing river in England and, accordingly, replacement of the main would be difficult.
