Abstract

AbstractWith focus on design of new facilities in hostile environments and re-lifing of aging assets the requirement of corrosion engineers to be able to make the correct decision on the corrosion mitigation methods is key to the continued economical supply of oil and gas. Although many engineers have a broad focus on the options, the techniques available are sometimes disparate and may not be encompassed under one discipline. The development of an overall corrosion mitigation approach and the need to look at total life cycle costs are therefore important for a project to achieve design life or extend the operating life of existing assets. The various subjects including material selection, external and internal corrosion mitigation will be discussed and also how all the possible processes can be bought together into an effective corrosion management system for the long term integrity of the asset.
