Abstract

The corrosion measurements of Sn–Zn alloys with varying Zn contents from 0wt.% to 12wt.% were investigated in a 6M KOH solution. The corrosion parameters of this series of materials, which include open circuit potential, galvanic corrosion current, corrosion potential, and corrosion current, were studied. The Sn–Zn alloys initially revealed an activity similar with that of pure Zn in this 6M KOH solution. The alloy activity became more inert when the corrosion analysis was prolonged. In addition, phase and morphological analyses results confirmed the formation of mixed corrosion products on the surface after polarisation.
