Abstract

The inhibition effect of o- cresol on the corrosion of 6061 Al alloy/SiCp composite in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution at four different temperatures has been investigated using potentiostatic polarization technique and weight loss method. The results obtained reveal that o-cresol is an efficient cathodic inhibitor with greater than 70% of efficiency in the range of temperature studied. The adsorption of the inhibitor on the composite surface was found to obey Temkins' adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism.
