Abstract

The hydrogen evolution from aqueous alkaline media due to aluminium pigment is inhibited by various styrene-maleic acid anhydride resins (SMA) and thermosetting phenolic resins (PF). The determination by the quantities of aluminium, oxygen and carbon on the aluminium sheet surfaces by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) leads to the assumption that a chelate complex of PF and aluminium(III) should be formed on the aluminium surface.
