Abstract

In this study, the influence of corrosion on the monotonic properties of ultra-high-strength (UHS, yield strength above 1000 MPa) reinforcing bars are investigated through tensile and compressive tests. The accelerated corrosion technique is adopted to obtain corroded UHS steel bars with different corrosion degrees. A total number of 79 specimens are involved in the experiment (16 for tensile test and 63 for compressive test). The influences of corrosion on the tensile and compressive properties of UHS steel bars are quantified through regressions of experimental results. An empirical stress-strain curve model for UHS steel bars is proposed based on the experimental results. This model can well reproduce the monotonic behaviors of UHS steel bars and can take the influence of corrosion into account, which can be easily implemented in the load-carrying capacity analysis of corroded RC structures designed with UHS steel bars.
