Abstract

Corrosion behavior of TiAl-Nb alloy in liquid zinc was investigated. It was found that TiAl-Nb had excellent corrosion resistance, corrosion life reaching 130 days, which increased nearly six times than that of WC-Co coating. Its corrosion process was divided into incubation period and rapid corrosion period. Corrosion life of TiAl-Nb mainly depends on incubation period. The concept of “incubation style” corrosion is first proposed by us. Additionally, it is surprised to find that the sample cut by wire electrical discharge machining possesses much higher corrosion resistance than polished sample, which has surface effect.
