Abstract

Abstract An investigation of corrosion behavior of Cu-Al-Be ternary Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) with and without titanium coating on the surface of the SMA has been carried out in different corroding media. Bend test was conducted to know the Shape Memory Effect(SME). Depending on applications of SMAs in corrosive environments, two corrosion media (Hanks solution (simulates the body solution) and fresh water) were selected. Sputtering technique was employed to coat Titanium on the SMA. The Corrosion test for the above SMA was conducted; it was observed that the corrosion rate of the Observed SMA is less in fresh water compared to hanks solution. Also by coating Titanium on the Cu-Al-Be SMA, the corrosion resistance of the alloy is enhanced in both media.
