Abstract

The Fe-Cr-Mo-(Y, Ga)-C-B-Si alloy system was chosen to synthesize bulk amorphous steels by water-cooled copper mold casting, in form of discs with 10 mm diameter. The structure of the obtained samples was evaluated using X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry and the corrosion behavior was assessed by electrochemical polarization tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in 0.5 M H2SO4 electrolyte, as well as immersion tests in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. It was found a better corrosion performance of the elaborated alloys compared to a reference 316 L stainless steel, the corrosion rate being strongly influenced by the content of Cr, Ga, and Y.
