Abstract

The electrochemical behavior of 16Mn low alloy steel in simulated sulfide-containing Bayer solutions at different conditions has been studied by polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) at the corrosion potential. The conclusions on the effect of S2−, NaOH and Al2O3 at various temperatures in sulfide-containing Bayer solutions on the corrosion mechanism of the studied material are drawn. A model based on its reaction mechanism was proposed. Interpretation of the results according to this model and two time constants τ0 and τ1 – allowed for the estimation of rate-determining step. The EIS was well analyzed by this model.
