Abstract

Copper plate was coated with layers of TaB 2 1–6 μm thick by the chemical vapour deposition process. The corrosion and abrasion resistivities against sea water and sea sands were examined in relation to the deposition temperature and the thickness of the coated layer. The weight decrease in sea water of the TaB 2-coated copper plate reduced with decreasing deposition temperature and increasing thickness of the coated layer. The weight decrease in whirled sea sands reduced with increasing thickness of the coated layer and became constant above a thickness of 3 μm.
