Development and initial testing of the self-care of chronic illness inventory. Journal of Advanced Nursing, 74, 2465–2476. https://doi.org/10.1111/jan.13775 The original version of this article (Riegel et al., 2018) contained mistakes, and the authors would like to correct them. There was an error in the scoring algorithm instruction. It concerns the calculation of the total score which the authors would like to correct in this Corrigendum. The revised text is shown below: Scores for each scale are standardized mathematically on a scale of 0–100, which negates potential issues with a different number of items in each scale. To standardize the score on the 8-item Self-Care Maintenance scale: Sum the patient responses on the eight items. Subtract the number of scale items answered. Determine the possible range of scores based on the number of scale items. For the 8-item Self-Care Maintenance scale, scores can range from a high of 40 to a low of 8. Subtract the lowest possible scale score from the highest possible scale score (40 − 8 = 32). Subtract the number of items from the patient's score and divide by the number obtained in step three. Multiple by 100. For example, a patient answers 5, 4, 5, 4, 4, 5, 3, 5 on the eight Self-Care Maintenance scale. Her summed score is 35. The possible range of scores on the Self-Care Maintenance scale is 32 (40 − 8 = 32). As there are 8 items in the scale, subtract 8 from the patient's score of 35 (35 − 8 = 27). Divide this by 32 (possible range) and multiply by 100 to yield a standardized score of 84.4. The dimensions within each scale are not scored separately as it is the combined total that represents the whole scale, Self-Care Maintenance, Self-Care Monitoring, and Self-Care Management. Note that these 3 scale scores are not added for a total score. The three scale scores are used separately. Higher scores indicate better self-care. General formula: The authors would like to apologize for this error and for any inconvenience caused. REFERENCE Riegel, B., Barbaranelli, C., Sethares, K. A., Daus, M., Moser, D. K., Miller, J.
