Abstract

The conclusion by Ardran, Crooks and Ranby (1963) that these screens are not sufficiently sensitive for use in diagnostic radiology is correct, and would, as the authors say, be expected because the X-ray detecting layer is so thin in this d.c. construction. However, the image retention time of several minutes following an exposure of two to three röntgens, which gave a good quality image (55 meshes to the inch), makes these panels an attractive possibility for checking the positioning of fields in radiotherapy as a routine measure, if panels are available. Neither the high dose nor the viewing from the irradiated side would be prohibitive here.
