Abstract

Gordon S.A. and Buess E.M. Correlative inhibition of root emergence in the gamma irradiated Coleus leaf—II. Abscopal increase of ribonuclease activity . Radiation Botany 12 , 361–364, 1972.-γ-irradiation of the lamina of the Coleus leaf is shown to raise the ribonuclease activity of the shielded petiole base within one-half day after exposure. The fall in RNA level in the petiole base is attributed to this abscopal response. Irradiation of the lamina does not change the lability of petiolar RNA to enzymatic hydrolysis. Post-irradiation exposure to cycloheximide or Actinomycin D prevents the activation of the petiolar ribonuclease.
