Correlative and noncorrelative conjunctions in argument and nonargument positions

Abstract

This paper disputes the central thesis of a recent analysis of the relation between coordinate structures of the form “X and Y” and coordinate structures of the form “both X and Y,” when structures of both types occupy argument positions. A reanalysis is not attempted here, but some facts potentially useful in articulating an adequate reanalysis are noted.
