Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper studies heat transfer characteristics of helical fin tube heat exchangers. Effect of several geometric parameters are discussed, including number the of rows(Z), fin height (ft), fin pitch (fp), tube pitch (Pt), arranged angles (θ), tube transverse pitch (St), and tube longitudinal pitch (S1), with 19.05 mm tube outside diameter (do), the number of rows varies from 1 to 6, fh is 0.4, 0.5, 0.6 times of do, fp is 6, 10, 14 fins/25.4 mm, Pt is 2, 2.5, 3 times of do, θ is 30°, 45°, 60°. Typical arrangement is Z = 4, fh = 0.5do, fp = 10 fin/25.4 mm, Pt = 2.5 do, and θ = 30°. When one parameter is changed, others are kept at their standard values. Twenty two heat exchangers in total are made to study the aforementined parameters. Colburn factor j and friction factor f are used to express the thermal and the hydraulic characteristics respectively. And two Correlations for j and f are deduced by regression analysis from the present experiment data. All parameters are presented in these equations.
