Abstract

The simultaneous presence of two substitutional cations inside the fluorite-type Ca 1 − x Y x(1 − z) Nd xz F 2 + x solid solution domain results, for each series of materials corresponding to a fixed x value, in an enhancement of the fluoride ion conduction as compared to those of the borderline compounds, Ca 1 − x Y x F 2 + x ( z = 0) and Ca 1 − x Nd x F 2 + x ( z = 1). The material which has the highest conductivity inside each series is characterized by a Y Nd ratio close to 2. The results obtained are discussed on the basis of a previously proposed clustering model.
