Abstract

Objective To study the correlation of expression of MUC1 mRNA in peripheral blood with breast cancer and lung cancer, and its diagnostic value on breast cancer. Methods The serum in health control group, benign tumor, breast cancer, lung cancer and other cancer groups was collected, then the expression of MUC1 mRNA was detected by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).Results MUC1 mRNA expression and positive rate (10%) in benign tumor group had not statistically significant correlation with healthy control group (P > 0.05).The expression and positive rate (50%) in breast cancer group had significant difference with healthy control group (P > 0.01),MUC1 mRNA expression of infiltrating ductal carcinoma of breast was the highest in this group.Various types of breast cancer had no significant difference (P > 0.05).The expression and positive rate (60%) in lung cancer group had significant difference with healthy control group(P > 0.01),and in other cancer group had no significant difference(P > 0.05).Conclusions MUC1 mRNA can be the marker to diagnose breast cancer and lung cancer, but it has no value on diagnosis of breast cancer classification. Key words: MUC1 mRNA; Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction; Breast cancer; Lung cancer
