Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between advanced glycation end products (AGE) and vascular endothelial function in Uygur elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH).Methods One hundred and eighteen Uygur old patients with ISH were enrolled as the ISH group,115 patients with essential hypertension (EH) were enrolled as the EH group, another 100 agematched normotension (NT) people were chose as NT group.Serum AGE levels were measured by ELISA method, and serum Nitric oxide(NO) levels were measured by Griess method. The flow-mediated endothelium-dependent vasodilation function (FMD) was detected by ultrasound technology, and carotid-femoral pulse wave conduction velocity (cfPWV) was measured by automatic arteriosclerosis detector. The relationship between AGE and other indicators was analyzed by linear correlation analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression analysis. Results The levels of AGE and cfPWV in ISH group and EH group were higher(P all < 0.05),while the levels of NO and FMD were lower than those in NT group (P all < O.05).The levels of AGE and cfPWV in ISH group were higher than those in EH group (P all < 0.05),while the levels of NO and FMD in ISH group were lower than those in EH group (P all < 0.05).AGE was positively correlated with cfPWV (P < 0.001),but was negatively correlated with NO and FMD (P all < 0.001).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that NO,cfPWV and AGE all had influence on FMD.Conclusions The serum AGE level is significantly elevated in Uygur elderly patients with isolated systolic hypertension, and it is negatively correlated with FMD.
