Abstract

The influence of the stacking fault energy (SFE) on friction and wear has been examined in the system Cu-Al. With increasing aluminium content, up to 8.9 wt. %, the SFE decreases by a factor of about 20, while the wear resistance increases by about 60%, and the friction coefficient decreases from around 0.8 to about 0.45.
