Abstract

The paper deals with the issue of synchronous motivation of primary (verbal) and secondary (substantive) meanings of English nouns by lexicosemantic features of motivating verbs. The aim of the study is to identify not only positive, but also negative correlations between the semantics of the motivating
verb and the derivative. The texts of socio-political orientation served as the material for the study. The result of continuous sampling demonstrates the list consisting of 385 pairs «a motivating verb – a motivated noun». The range of parameters
taken into consideration includes basic parameters (lexical-semantic meanings of Nomina Actionis) and criterial parameters (lexical-semantic meanings of motivating verbs). The authorhas obtained a database that serves as the basis for the correlation analysis of the data. The paper presents the analysis of
the statistical data obtained as the result of the correlation of semantic features revealed in energetic, ontological and informational complexes with primary and secondary meanings of Nomina Actionis. In addition, the article identifies
the strongest positive and negative correlations. The data obtained help to reveal the influential mechanismof the elements included in the derivation process and can serve as a basis for further comparative analysis.
