Abstract
Lesions found in certain lymphoid tissues of chickens with Marek's disease were compared with their immunological competence. Spleen weight but not bursal weight increased significantly in infected chickens. Serum titer of specific agglutinins for Salmonella pullorum antigen had no specific correlation with lesions found in the spleen, bursa of Fabricius, and thymus. In many instances, those chickens which were responsive to antigenic challenge exhibited the greatest degree of pathological change in the bursa and spleen. Responsive chickens had significantly more bursal-dependent follicles in the spleens than did controls, and unresponsive chickens had significantly fewer.
