Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with excessive ovarian androgens and altered adrenal steroidogenesis. Adrenal androgen secretion and glucocorticoid output may be estimated, respectively, by determination of serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and 24-hour urinary free cortisol (UFC). This report compares adrenal androgen and glucocorticoid output with selected clinical, endocrine, and metabolic parameters relevant to PCOS.
