Abstract

The correlation factors for Zr and Al were evaluated in the β-Zr(Al) solid solution phase using single-phase diffusion couples. The temperature dependence of these factors were also established. The values of correlation factor for Zr are very close to that of ideal bcc lattice and increase marginally with an increase in temperature. The correlation factor for the solute, Al, is higher than that of Zr and decreases linearly with an increase in temperature. The diffusion mechanism was identified as vacancy exchange.
