Abstract

The correlation dimension and maximal Lyapunov exponent have a direct relationship with the harmonic complexity contained in non-linearity induced oscillations in chemical process plants. When combined with knowledge of the harmonic propagation of plant-wide oscillations, they can be applied to locate the source of the non-linearity. The method is demonstrated on both simulated data and real industrial data.
