Abstract

Adequate construction material is a base for construction industry development. Paper Crete Bricks has been identified as low-cost building material with the potential to fulfil the material problem in Ethiopia. The purpose of this research was to correlate the strength and weight of paper Crete bricks for wall-making material. This research can be done by identifying the properties of the material through laboratory experiments, and determination of paper Crete bricks ingredient quantity. According to the Ethiopian and American Society for Testing Materials standards. The compressive strength, efflorescence, fire resistance 1:1 (wastepaper sand 20%) composition gives the satisfactory result and fulfil minimum compressive strength of bricks, comparatively no efflorescence, good fire resistance compared to the ratio of 1:3 and 1:5 (wastepaper sand 20%). While the ratio 1:1 (wastepaper sand 30%) does not fulfil the compressive strength of the specification of the bricks and comparatively fair fire resistance compare to ratio 1:3 and 1.5. For ratio 1:3 (wastepaper sand 0%) compositions gives the satisfactory result and fulfil the specification of bricks. While the ratio 1:3 (wastepaper sand 30%) does not fulfil the minimum compressive strength of the specification of the bricks, and shows poor fire resistance compare to the same percentage wastepaper sand ratio 1:1. While the ratio 1:5 (wastepaper sand 30%) does not fulfil the minimum required compressive strength of the specification of the bricks, and poor fire resistance compare to both ratio with the same percentage wastepaper sand. Ratio 1:1 wastepaper sand up to 20% paper Crete bricks is more recommended. The fire resistance is decreasing with increase wastepaper sand. All trial mix ratio the weight and strength of paper Crete bricks correlation did have an approach to 1 it indicates a good correlation. The results shown that the weight of paper Crete bricks had positive effects on the strength hence.
