Abstract

Objective To study the expressions of p53, PTEN in the tissues of gastric carcinoma (GC) and the correlation between them and recurrence, prognosis of GC patients after gastrectomy. Methods The expressions of p53, PTEN in 108 GC tissues, 30 pericarcinous tissue and 30 non gastric cancer tissue were examined by tissue microarray and two-step methods of PV-6000 of immunohistochemistry, the correlations between their expressions and recurrence, prognosis were analyzed according to the clinical pathological data and follow-up data. Results The expression of p53 protein was related to the 5-year survival rate after radical resection of GC (P=0.002), and the 5-year survival rate of the patients with p53 positive expression was lower than that of patients with p53 negative expression; the expression of PTEN was related to the 1-year recurrence rate (P=0.02)and 5-year survival rate (P=0.022), patients with recurrence in 1 year has low positive expression of PTEN, the 5-year survival rate of the patients with positive expression of PTEN was higher. Multivariant Cox regression analysis showed that the positive expression of p53 and PTEN protein is an independent prognostic factor for the 5-year survival rate after radical resection of GC. Conclusions Combined detection of p53 and PTEN protein can be used as an index to predict recurrence and survival rate after radical gastrectomy.
