Abstract
Simultaneous apex cardiograms and left ventricular pressure pulses were recorded in 20 cardiac patients in various stages of compensation in search of a clinically useful correlation between the external phenomena at the apex and the intracardiac diastolic pressure events. For an understanding of the normal variations, apex cardiograms were recorded in 50 healthy subjects. A useful relation between the amplitude of the diastolic components of the apex cardiogram ( a wave and diastolic filling wave) and the height of left ventricular diastolic pressure has been found. The genesis of apex cardiographic deflections and the possible explanations for the correlation described have been discussed.
