Abstract

The operational process of craft gemstone is at risk for the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders complaints. This study aimed to examine correlation between tenure, body mass index and MSD’s complaints on gemstone craftsman in Keramat Village of East Martapura District. Method: This was an analytic observational research with cross-sectional approach method. This research sample was 42 workers who were obtained using simple random sampling technique. The instruments were used scales, microtoise, spreadsheet, checklist NBM sheet, and VAS tool. Results: The results showed that most tenure was ≥5 years (69.0%), and most of them were in normal BMI category (66.7%). The results of statistic tests, using chi square and fisher exact test with 95% confidence level, showed that there was a significant relationship between tenure and MSD’s complaints (OR = 5.029; p = 0.035); and there was no significant relationship between BMI and MSD’s complaint (p = 0.390). Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between tenure and MSD’s complaints but there was no significant correlation between BMI and MSD’s complaints.
