Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between portal vein pressure and portal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) by detecting portal vein pressure and apoptosis index (AI) of gastric mucosa measured by TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) and the expression of Caspase-3 (H) in canines. Methods The portal hypertension animal models in 32 canines were established by partial portal vein ligation. On the postoperative week 14,portal vein pressure was measured, gastric mucosa AI was assayed by using TUNEL,and the expression of Caspase-3 (H) was examined by using immunohistotchemistry. Results On the postoperative week 14,the analysis of the linear regression between portal vein pressure and AI showed that the regression coefficient was b =0.5799,the constant was a =3.3064,and the correlation coefficient was r =0.8079,P < 0.01.The analysis of the linear regression between portal vein pressure and H revealed that the regression coefficient was b =2.6277,the constant was a =6.7828,and the correlation coefficient was r =0.7960,P < 0.01.Portal vein pressure had a positive linear correlation with AI and H.Conclusion There is a positive linear correlation between PHG and portal pressure, and the key to the treatment of PHG is to lower portal pressure. Key words: Portal hypertension; Gastric mucosa; Apoptosis; G astropathy; Canine
