Abstract

Several facts showing that stability heterogeneity along DNA double-strand has a remarkable positional correlation with the distribution of genes are presented. The distribution of physical stability of the double-helix seems to play some role in the genetic function of DNA, and/or may be a relic of the past recombination. In any case, the authors would like to suggest that the full understanding of the genetic function of DNA may not be achieved without a detailed study of `physical property map' along its long molecular thread.
