Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood sugar levelsthat occur due to abnormal working/secretion of insulin. Meanwhile, physical activity plays a significantrole in regulating blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. During physical activity,insulin resistance decreases because when muscles contract, membrane permeability increases, and glucosecan enter the cells. Objectives: The study aimed to determine the correlation between physical activitylevel and the therapeutic success of T2DM patients. Method: This cross-sectional study sample was allT2DM patients in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital internal polyclinic with a sample size of 87 people takenby consecutive sampling. Data was collected by direct interviews using the IPAQ questionnaire. The studyvariables were the therapeutic success and physical activity level of T2DM patients. Results: At a lowlevel of physical activity, 69.8% of respondents had not met the therapeutic success criteria, at a moderatelevel, 56.0% have met the criteria, at a high level, 66.7% have not met the criteria. Conclusion: There isno correlation between physical activity level and the therapeutic success of T2DM patients at RSUD Dr.Soetomo Surabaya (p = 0.086).
