Abstract

Introduction: Asthma’s official definition and a short review about family context as an important aspect of suffering from asthma in childhood are given. Methods: A study, using questionnaires, was conducted in Polish adult asthmatics population to determine differences between them and non-asthmatics on the level of intensity of patterns of attachment. Results: Difference was found between study groups in the intensity of avoidant–resistant style of attachment (U = .046, p < .05). Research also shows a correlation between the intensity of avoidant–resistant attachment style and asthma severity (r = .347, p < .05). Conclusion: Positive correlation shows that the more severe asthma is, the higher the intensity of avoidant–resistant attachment style in asthmatics. The results of this study are functional and make the anxiety factor among asthmatic people more precise. Suggestion about family trans-generational anxiety transmission is more probable after this study.
