Abstract

Rationale: elderly with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on renal replacement therapy (RRT) frequently suffer from sarcopenia (low skeletal muscle mass, strength and function). Online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) is a new dialysis method that combines diffusion and convection promoting better removal of both small and middle molecules. The purpose of this study is to access sarcopenia in elderly initiating OL-HDF, correlating nutritional assessment, handgrip strength (HGS), skeletal muscle mass (SMM) and questionnaire screening for sarcopenia associated with calf circumference (SARC-CalF).
