Abstract

The aim of this work was to investigate the relationship between the distribution of grain boundary diffusion properties and th distribution of special grain boundaries. The diffusion properties of grain boundaries were determined by measurement of the kinetics of spreading of trapped lattice dislocations (TLDs). For the characterization of the distribution of special grain boundaries the coincidence site lattice (CSL) model was used. The results obtained show that the fraction of grain boundaries with TLDs decreases with decreasing fraction of CSL boundaries. It was also established that in addition to CSL boundatries there exist a lot of grain boundaries with diffusion properties close to those of CSL boundaries. This confirms the continuous distribution of grain boundary diffusion properties.Comparison of the two investigated distributions indicates that the fraction of near-twist boundaries decreases and the fraction of near-tilt boundaries increases with increasing recrystallization temperature.
