Abstract

Objective To investigate the status of adversity quotient of nursing students during internship and explore the correlation between adverse quotient and professional self-identity. Methods A cluster sampling method was adopted. Totally 306 intern nurses were investigated with general information questionnaire, Adversity Quotient Scale and Professional Self-identity Scale from July to September 2018. A total of 282 valid questionnaire were collected. Results The scores of adversity quotient of nurse students were (121.38±16.89) . Nurse students who were non-only children, with student cadre experience and longer clinical internship had higher adversity quotient scores (P<0.05) . Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total and dimensional scores adversity quotient were positively correlated with the total and dimensional scores professional self-identity (P<0.01) . Multivariate regression analysis showed that professional cognitive evaluation (β=0.241, P<0.01) and professional self-reflection (β=0.225, P<0.01) had a positive predictive effect on adversity quotient, and explained its 24.6% of the variance. Conclusions The majority of nursing students' adversity quotient was at the middle level, which was positively correlated with professional self-identity. Nursing educators and administrators should further strengthen the training of adversity quotient among nursing students, thereby improve nursing students' professional self-identity and enhance their frustration tolerance. Key words: Students, nursing; Internship; Adversity quotient; Professional self-identity
