Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of nutritional status on the sleep quality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods Two hundreds and forty-eight COPD patients were chosen and were surveyed by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Subjective Global Assessment (SGA), and the relationship between nutritional status and the sleep quality was analyzed .Results The percent of COPD patients in normal or mild, moderate and severe malnutrition were respectively 65.0%,32.2% and 2.8%.The percent of the total score of PSQI which was more than 7 was 92.7%, and the total average score of PSQI was (10.01 ±2.87).The total score of PSQI was (8.86 ±1.71) in the normal or mild malnutrition patients, and was (11.24 ±1.84) in the moderate and severe malnutrition patients , and the difference was statistically significant (t=10.183,P〈0.05).The regression analysis showed that the subjective sleep quality , sleep latency , sleep duration , sleep disorders , daytime dysfunction , the scores of PSQI had the relations to the nutritional status in COPD patients .Conclusions The nutritional status in COPD patients can improve their sleep quality .
