Abstract
Physico-mechanical properties of rocks are important in the planning, design, and stability of civil and mining engineering projects. The determination of these properties in laboratory is a time consuming and laborious job and needs costly equipment and expertise, but the determination of P-wave velocity in laboratory as well as in in-situ condition is an easy, simple, reliable, and less complicated task. So, in this paper, an attempt has been made to correlate physico-mechanical properties of coal measures rocks with P-wave velocity. Samples of coal, shale, and sandstone has been taken from the four different coal mines of India for the determination of compressive strength, tensile strength, shear strength, density, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, and P-wave velocity.
