Abstract

The Paper engages in the ongoing discourse on African Philosophical foundation for Research. It rejects the argument for the universality of Western Philosophy and argues that African researchers need to dig within the continent and establish a Philosophical foundation for Research that is contextually relevant to the continent. The Paper is written on a theory of ‘corrective epistemology’ that seeks to engage in research with the sole objective of correcting errors made by Western researchers and writers on Africa. It focuses mainly on research into African music but throws the light on all disciplines of African Studies.
