Abstract

A systematic method has been developed for assigning material collected in the hydrocyclones of a Cyclosizer size analysis device to equivalent screen size fractions, knowing the specific gravity of the compositional classes in each collection. The technique is illustrated using compositional classes determined by the QEM ∗SEM image analysis technique on a rock containing nickel-iron sulphides. Examination of the variation in the fractions of each class as a function of particle size shows the pattern of liberation of sulphides. If this correction is not performed the conclusions concerning literation can be erroneous.
