Abstract

A Foldy-Wouthuysen reduction is made of the μ-capture Hamiltonian, keeping terms of order ( 1 M ) 2 . The corrections of order ( 1 M ) 2 to the transition probability are then calculated for two cases, 16 O(0 +→ 16 N(0 −) and 12C(0 +)→ 12 B(1 +) , which are of interest because the former provides a means of determining the induced pseudoscalar coupling constant while the latter can be used to determine the size of the axial vector and weak magnetism coupling constants.
