Correction to “Asymmetry of auroral electron precipitations and its relationship to the substorm expansion phase onset” by M. V. Stepanova et al.

Abstract

[1] In the paper “Asymmetry of auroral electron precipitations and its relationship to the substorm expansion phase onset” by M. V. Stepanova, E. E. Antonova, J. M. Bosqued, R. A. Kovrazhkin, and K. R. Aubel (Journal of Geophysical Research, 107(A7), 1134, doi:10.1029/2001JA003503, 2002), Table 1 was incorrect. Consequently, the negative sign in the equation s = −3.5 ± 0.5 in paragraph [27] should be removed, so the equation should read: s = 3.5 ± 0.5, and the statement in paragraph [28] that 12 of 15 power index values were between −2 and −4 should have stated that they were between 2 and 4. The correct data, which are presented below in the Table 1, confirm the conclusions made in the paper even better than the previously presented erroneous one. In addition, in the Wing and Newell reference (Wing, S., and P. T. Newell, Central plasma sheet ion properties as inferred from ionospheric observations, J. Geophys. Res., 105(A4), 7793–7802, 2000), the correct journal citation is J. Geophys. Res., 103(A4), 6785–6800, 1998.
