Abstract

This research aimed to correct recently changed surface characteristics into a diagnostic wind field model with the purposes of investigating the changed mixing depth and wind profile, as well as its impact on wind resource potentials. In order to reflect the latest surface characteristics, the Environmental Geographic Information System (EGIS) 3-s land-use data produced by the Ministry of Environment was inputted. A change in the conditions of the surface affects the local wind circulation and the feature of Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL), such as mixing heights and the wind speed profile. As a result, a difference of wind speed at a hub height leads to a change in the wind energy potential. Compared to Low Resolution experiment (LRexp), High Resolution experiment (HRexp) suffers Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) decreased by 26.3% and Index Of Agreement (IOA) is increased by 7.8% at maximum, so that it contributes to the improved prediction accuracy of wind field.
