Abstract
Previously the authors presented a new method for correcting a railway track irregularity and developed the software for calculating optimum controlling data for a heavy tamping machine based on the optimization method. So far, through experimental use in the field, these new methods have been confirmed to be effective and useful. This paper gives the formal definition of the formulation to the optimization problem of correcting a railway track irregularity under various constraints. For practical use, the method used to determine the weighting coefficient included in the optimization problem is also described.
