Abstract

In our recent article we stated that “most children over 3 years old can take bronchodilator by an MDI” (metered dose inhaler). The statement was shortened at a final editing stage and is incorrect. It should have read “wheezy children over 3 years old should take their bronchodilator by inhalation rather than as a syrup or tablet”. Whilst even very young infants can be given bronchodilator by an MDI with a spacer and mask, few can manage an MDI alone before about 8 years old. Even at this age a dry powder device is often more suitable than an unmodified MDI.
