Abstract

]\y|R. A. H. FLAX, of the Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory, -*-•-*• Inc., has pointed out that there is an error in the expres sions for the jet damping force and moment of the air-jet-type missile. This error comes about by neglecting the sudden change of momentum of the incoming air at the entrance of the duct. The air at the entrance of the duct has a velocity component of Qh at right angles to the undisturbed stream. The sudden change in momentum thus produces a force at the lip of caQh and a moment of caQh2. When these quantities are added to the expressions for the forces and moments representing the integrated coriolis forces [Eqs. (10) of the paper] the jet damping force be comes 2[c(k - h) + calo]Q
