The bottom image represents Ponceau S staining (labeled “Protein”) that seeks to confirm that total protein loading was roughly equal in each lane. A mistake was made in the rightmost “Protein” image. Only eight lanes are displayed rather than the expected nine. Given the age of the article, we have been unable to locate the original images.
